Your Lungs
Your lungs are the organs in your body that process the air you breathe. They take energy-giving oxygen (O2) to the blood and remove carbon dioxide waste (CO2).
When you breathe in, air passes through your nose,
mouth, and trachea or windpipe. This upper respiratory
system warms and humidifies the air so it is easier
for the lungs to work with. Mucus and tiny hairlike
brushes called cilia work as air filters, trapping
dust and sweeping out pollutants.
Coughing and swallowing also helps push away such
harmful elements away from the lower
respiratory system.
